Some animal rights activists are fighting to replace the term 'owner' with 'guardian' to convey a more balanced relationship between a person and her or his pet. Do you agree or disagree with the importance of this mission?

It's never seemed quite right to me that one can "own" a living creature. I don't expect everyone to consider their pet as their child like I do, but certainly "owner" isn't the correct term. "Guardian" sound like a suitable replacement term to me. As for the level of importance here, well- there are definitely more pressing issues in the world. But everyone has their own causes, for whatever reason, and I'm sure the things that get me worked up would seem foolish to other people. I probably wont go out marching for new pet terminology, but I'd support anyone who does want to do so.

Do you have any recurring dreams? If so, what do you think it says about your personality? How about your unconscious hopes, fears, and desires?

Yesss, I love talking about dreams, and I have a lot of them. Recent themes in my dreams are:

-Warm liquid on my face. I just noticed this was a recurring element in dreams from the last couple weeks. In one dream I was standing in warm rain with my head up so it hit my face. In another Shauna's abdomen was cut open by a crazy doctor and her blood sprayed on my face. In the last one, the fella put frosting on my face and then licked it off (warm saliva). I haven't been able to figure out the meaning of any of these dreams, but I think the warm liquid theme could be attributed to something as simple as the possibility that my face sweats while I'm sleeping.

-Airplanes, plane crashes This theme has showed up 3 or 4 times lately. I'm either trapped on a plane and wanting desperately to get out (I was also unable to hear or see clearly), or I'm comfortable on the plane but then find out it's going to crash. In last night's dream I wasn't even actually on the plane, I was in a building that a plane crashed into (definitely related to 9/11). There's no hidden meaning here. I'm terrified of planes and anxious about having to fly in the near future.

some longer-running dream themes of mine are:

-Disneyland. However, my dream Disneyland is much different than real Disneyland.

-Lesser known celebrities. Rick Moranis, Scott Baio, Bill Pullman...

-Losing teeth/ crumbling teeth. Apparently this is common, although I don't know what it means. This theme has occurred in my dreams as far back as I can remember.

-Giving birth to inanimate objects. Usually glass or ceramic items. And once it was a litter of kittens.

- Male and female pairs of people or animals, and the male dies. No idea what that's about.

If your pet could talk, what is the first thing s/he would say to you?

If my dog could talk she wouldn't bother saying anything to me. She'd just open the window and start calling, "kitty kitty kitty!" Oh wait, the ability to talk doesn't give her opposable thumbs, so I guess she would have to talk to me to ask me to open the window for her.

How well do you take criticism? Do you deflect it or take it personally? Does it usually inspire you to change? Are you more critical of yourself or others?

I really don't deal with a lot of criticism. I deal with blind insults, but that kind of stuff is completely meaningless. I think I'm probably more prone to shrug off criticism than to take it to heart, and that may not always be in my best interest.

I've had insomnia for as long as I can remember. It's never really bothered me too much. I found really early on that if I stress about it, it gets much worse. In maybe 4th or 5th grade I used to get really wound up about it. I remember the beginning of Showtime at the Apollo would come on and I'd be full of dread knowing that once I had been up that long, sleep wasn't going to come at all. Now, I just don't even try to sleep if I'm not really tired. The trick that works almost always for me now is for me to lay down and tell myself I'm just laying down to do a crossword puzzle or read or sketch in bed. 10 minutes of doing one of those things, and I'm tired enough to actually fall asleep. If I just lay down and try to sleep right off, it's highly likely I'll still be laying there awake hours later.

3. Body and atmosphere checks whilst having anxiety, checking that "everythings ok".
4. Food/ reviewing intake for the day
5. Obsessing over various injustices in the world and in my life.

Hmmm...what did I do today? Apparently not much.

I think I've given up on teaching myself how to knit. I have no problem with crocheting, macrame, and other crafty things, but knitting is just not getting any easier no matter how many times I try. I checked out videos on knitting help thanks to suggestions from [info]bpddjeoomon and [info]citrusgoldfish and the videos there seemed like they should be helpful, but after watching one of them 15 times and only getting 2 stitches done, I decided knitting was not my cup of tea. Maybe I'm just not in the right frame of mind, because I tried to use scraps of yarn from my various knitting failures to make friendship bracelets like I've been making since I was in 3rd grade, and I kept screwing those up, too.

So, here's what I ate today:

I also made a formspring account today. Please ask me questions! Anything!
