( floral )Yesterday I attended a graduation barbeque for a good friend and we spent the day playing ping pong and spoons, eating good food, making s'mores and talking around the fire. I find it so strange the effect that fire can have on people, the mellowed feeling that prompts conversations about space and infinity. To end such a perfect day I indulged in a guilty pleasure of mine, watching Gilmore Girls late into the night with a large mug of tea. In other news I have missed an incredible opportunity because I haven't been checking Flickr recently. Frankie magazine contacted me to ask if they could use one of my photographs in a book they are publishing, however, with me not checking the site I missed the deadline. It is encouraging though and perhaps something else may come of it in the future! Other than that I don't have much news as of late as I've mainly been printing and laminating displays for my classroom. I can't remember if I mentioned that I'd got a job but just in case it's in a lovely school teaching Year 2 children. I've also been preparing for my first holiday on Wednesday to Gran Canaria, which I'm very much looking forward to. I have a stack of books ready to go and have spent this morning accumulating music that reminds me of summer. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated though! I hope you all are well and I'm going to spend some time replying to comments and emails now. I feel so out of the livejournal loop! ♥ Lovely list: MAC's Naked Honey Skin Salve Pineapple Juice Penelope Dujour magazine Storms Finding a copy of Edward Lear's Nonsense Omnibus from 1943 in a charity shop Pinch of Pink having nearly 90 followers!

Or: Tri orísky pro Popelku
This movie might be a bit obscure for people in the US, but it's still very popular in Europe, especially in Germany. Consider it our equivalent of "A Christmas Story" - the movie you just HAVE to watch at least once during Christmas season and any other time you feel down. IMDB link

They are both still working actors, mostly starring in Czech TV series. Pavel also owns a theater in Prague.
This seems to be an interesting article about those two. Unfortunately I can't make much sense of the online translation I got. Does anybody understand Norwegian?

For my post on the Pat-Rachel segment....I don't want anyone to think I am supporting racist remarks on tv. I wasn't looking at the whole picture and I didn't completely think it through.
Ive thought about it a lot and watched the video again and i agree, Rachel was wrong to bring him on. I hope she explains why she did it on Monday. And I hope MSNBC takes some kind of action against Pat, I doubt they will sadly but I'm sure people remember the whole Don Imus thing. What he said was wrong and he was fired, well Pat says terrible things every day. It's not right for MSNBC to keep paying him for it.
Anyways, so yea I'm sorry :( I feel really bad.

I know that David Schuster got blind-sided and had to go into "wall-to-wall" coverage mode very quickly, but he did seem to be struggling a little bit.
Rachel (who still probably had to throw out her whole planned show) did an amazing job, managing to be both deferential to Brokaw, Rather, and Brian Williams, but also letting her own personality come through and asking interesting questions.
As sad as everybody obviouisly is, I think she managed to strike just the right tone.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN SO MUCH!!!

No. 15: Rachel Maddow Maddow's eponymous cable talk/news/events show debuted last year and now regularly beats her CNN competitor, Larry King Live, in the ratings. Maddow, 36, quickly established a reputation as someone who could tackle issues with intelligence and irreverence. With her embrace of Twittering, podcasting and fan art, she appeals to a younger, hipper audience. Her Web site is even designed like an iPod, with a "playlist." She also has a regular show on Air America, the liberal radio station.

I really fucking hate it when they make you go through a slideshow to see the list. Just print the damn list. I also hate when the slideshow has to reload the page for every slide. Flash, you guys--it's not that hard.
Also at that Forbes article: Who's Hot: The Rising Stars We asked the women at wowOwow one simple question: Who's your pick for today's fastest-rising media star?
Candice Bergen: Rachel Maddow is the smart chick du jour but here to stay. A total star.
Marlo Thomas: I like Rachel Maddow because I always learn a little something when I watch her, as opposed to most of the screaming boys. And she's so sassy.
